History of IKEA Furniture Store
About eight decades ago, specifically the year 1926, IKEA founder Ingvar Kamprad was born in southern part of
Before Ingvar reached ten, he already started to do business with his neighbors by selling matches. He bought wholesale matches and sold them to the people in his neighbourhood at a very cheap price but still enough to earn him a profit. He also decided to sell greeting cards, decorations for Christmas trees, flower seeds, pencils, and ballpens.
Between 1940s and 1950s, the idea of a furniture shop is forming inside Ingvar’s head. He researched on many topics about his business idea such as furniture design, self assembly techniques, and marketing strategies.
About a decade later in the 1960s to 1970s, the idea of furniture store became a reality. They put up IKEA furniture stores and designed featured products such as POANG and BILLY bookcases.
In the 1980s, IKEA was able to establish itself in foreign lands and overseas. This is also the period when today’s classic IKEA products are created such as KLIPPAN, LACK, and MOMENT. This decade is also considered as the kick off start of the modern day IKEA.
Now, IKEA is what its history made it to be—high-quality, family-oriented, well-designed, and functional. IKEA also sells furniture at a very low cost. This is the main feature of IKEA—trying to manufacture high quality products at very low prices which will suit all kinds of people from different walks of life.
